There are two types of data listed in the data catalogue: datasets deposited at the
  • Universities Service Centre (see Descriptions of USC Data Collections),
  • datasets deposited elsewhere (see Descriptions of Non-USC data).

Users interested in non-USC data may contact direct the respective principal investigator or institution as specified in the data abstract.

Users interested in data collected by the USC should read the Regulations Governing the Use of Data in the following page, submit an application together with a research outline to the Director of the Universities Service Centre. Once the application is approved, the user must sign an undertaking to abide by the terms in the Regulations and pay the usage fee unless exempted.

At present, all USC-DCS data are supplied in ASCII format and on 3 1/2 inch high density floppy disks or CD-ROM, accompanied by peripheral files on disk such as SPSS command file and printed documentation such as questionnaire. Details about these accompanying materials are provided in the Peripherals column in the Descriptions of USC Data Collection in USC data catalogue.

Details of usage fees can be obtained from USC. The usage fee covers data, peripheral materials supplied as well as services including packaging and normal airmail postage for overseas users. Requests for exceptional services may be entertained and subjected to additional charges.
